Happy (belated) Thanksgiving to all of you!

This message is coming to you as I just got back from western NY where upon arrival I spent the next 3 days digging myself out of 6 1/2 feet of snow (it was coming down at around 3"/hour). It's quite the sight.  You shovel it and as soon as you've "finished" there's accumulation at the other end of the driveway you thought you were done with. Three days later it was 65 degrees and rain was coming down -- there was a general call for volunteers to help fill sandbags to say off the flooding from the melting snow. For what was supposed to be a vacation it was quite a work out.

What's western NY weather got to do with ham radio? Well, it was rather reassuring that several repeater groups were part of the teams organizing transporting hospital staff to/from various emergencies and emergency rooms via snowmobile. Their local weather teams banded together to find people with available snow transport. How cool.  Made for some interesting listening.

Speaking of really cool. We've gotten our results for Field Day 2014 and chalked up another impressive showing: #1 in NC (out of 89), #3 in our Division (out of 216), #7 in the Nation (out of 2686). #2 in QRP (out 315) was a little bittersweet -- #1 is the West Valley Amateur Radio Association (WVARA) in Santa Clara, CA. They run as lean an organization as ours, but have a very geographical advantage where they place their towers high atop a hill overlooking Silicon Valley -- really nice digs, though I'm sure we all enjoy and appreciate the fantastic location Wilson Lamb (W4BOH) graciously provided next to a tranquil pond in the Orange County Outback (OCO).

Hope to see the lot of you at our upcoming Holiday Party meeting this coming Tuesday!

73, Michael
