Dec 6 Program: DFMA Christmas Party Print E-mail
Written by KU4GC

Continuing a tradition of having the DFMA pick up the club member's tab for our December Holiday Dinner Meeting, we will meet at Bullock's Barbecue Restaurant in Durham starting around 6:00pm. You will be able to order from the menu. Each member may also bring one guest. This Christmas dinner is the program. Bring your spouse or friend!

This is our Christmas Meeting! In that tradition you may (optionally):

* Bring a Christmas gift for a child to be distributed to needy families. If wrapped, mark gender and age range on the outside. If not wrapped, that's fine too. If you have one -- a gift bag would work too.

* The Club will make its annual gift. It will be split between the Food Bank of North Carolina and the Durham Rescue Mission. We will be passing the "hat" for additional personal contributions to these causes. (Some members will drop a check in the hat made out to the charity of their choice -- we will forward it -- the cancelled check may be useful at tax time.)

All gifts are optional - bring the gift of your presence for all to enjoy!

There will be no program as such. However, be ready to relate "Ham Radio New Years Resolutions" - what are your ham radio goals for the coming year. Do you finally want to go to Dayton? Do you plan to put up (or take down) a tower? Are you finally going to put together a real "go kit". Is Morse code in your future? We hope you'll be ready to share your ham radio dreams.

The Link is on this Website Print E-mail

Starting with this month, our monthly newsletter The Link will appear on this website.  The Link will continue to be emailed directly to paid up DFMA members.  The web edition is identical to the mailed version except that some financial information has been excised from the web version.

At this time, a number of back issues have also been posted.  It is likely that more of this "historical record" will be posted in the future.

To get to The Link, click on the last entry in the main menu (to left of the page).  What to click on from there should be obvious.

(Making The Link more public was proposed by a member and approved by the DFMA Board at its October meeting.  Thanks to our Link editor, Skip WB4P, for making the two version available in suitable form.)

Saturday's VE Session moved to Efland Print E-mail

Hello All-

The OC EOC has requested that we not hold our licensing exam session there this coming Saturday. They want the room cleared just in case the path and timing of Hurricane Matthew requires an EOC activation.

I have checked and the Efland Baha'i Center (119 Maple Street and Hwy 70 in Efland) our alternate site will be available. We used this site a couple of years ago and it worked fine. I will contact the ARRL in the morning to get the public listing changed quickly if at all possible.

To get to the Efland Baha'i Center:

From Interstate 85/40, take Exit #160 and turn north onto Mt. Willing Road (right turn from westbound I-40).

Go about 0.4 miles, cross over the railroad tracks and turn right onto Forrest Avenue. Take the third left onto Maple Street, park in the gravel lot next to the church building. The exam session will be held in the Fellowship Hall, the low building on the opposite side of the church from the parking lot.

The classic Exchange (CX) is a forty year old contest / on-air celebration of the great commercial, kit and home brew rigs of the past. Scoring is important but sharing the experience again of operating and working those rigs of decades ago is a real payoff. CX is open to everyone however modern rigs have a scoring disadvantage - but they can still work the "great ones."

The CW session is Sept 11th and Sept 13th.
The AM/SSB/FM session is Sept 25th and Sept 27th.
