Nov 13 Meeting: ALICE Print E-mail
Written by KU4GC
Wednesday, 31 October 2007 00:00

Susan Rodger will be talking about teaching programming thru animation.   She will be using the ALICE system which is popular with students who wish to learn about programming, but who are often "afraid" of computers.  Her course is by far the most popular intro programming course at Duke.

Susan will have lots of interesting demos and examples showing off ALICE.

Susan Rodger is an Associate Professor of Computer Science.  She has been in demand with local school teachers for help with teaching programming using ALICE.

Crank Up Tilt Over Tower, etc For Sale Print E-mail
Written by KJ4GDW

Al Horvath, WA3OXM has a beautiful tilt over - crank up tower and some antennas for sale and has asked our local ham club for help in getting the word out.
Al has suffered a stroke, and more recently a heart attack although he has gotten pretty good speech back he and his wife are planning to move back to Maryland or Delaware to be closer to their children etc. so he is selling the tower and antennas.

The crank-up tower is a Tashjian LM-540E, (Formerly Tri-Ex) in very good condition with an erection fixture and a 20 ft heavy duty 2 inch mast and old Ham-M rotator.
He has priced the tower, erection fixture and mast at $1,600. You would need to purchase new anchor hardware and provide a concrete foundation for it.
He also has an A50-5S 5 element 6 meter yagi priced at $100. and a 13B2 13 element 2 meter yagi priced at $120.
He also has a Tennadyne T-8 and I have told him I would buy that for $400.

I have visited with Al WA3OXM and looked at his tower and antennas and they look to be in quite good condition. He purchased this equipment in 2006 and erected the tower in 2007. I have attached some photos.
WA3OXM Al's phone number is (252) 974-0636 and he lives in Blount's Creek, NC across the Pamlico River about 3 air miles from me.

Towers for sale 100 ft w/trailer and 1 other Print E-mail
Written by Wayne Estabrooks
Sunday, 06 January 2013 15:50

Craig Whitfill K5TBZ from Apex, NC is a regular attendee at the weekly Saturday
breakfast in Chatham County and he has 2 towers for sale. Craig has asked me to
spread the word.
He owns 2 trailerable 100 ft towers that he has used for field day in the past
and he has decided that he wants to sell one of them. He said he will sell it
for considerably less than he paid for it.
He also has a 50 ft. Hy Gain telescoping tower and he wants $300 for it.
He has to bring the Hy Gain from Washington, NC where he has it stored.

I have asked Craig to give me a better description and possibly a picture of the trailerable unit so we
can better understand exactly what he has for sale and I will post more
information as I receive it. I think this would be great for Dee, Dewey or Wilson !
You can reach Craig at (919) 606-0038. Feel free to call him with any questions you have.

Regards,

Wayne Estabrooks KJ4GDW
